Over the holidays I have been working on a few pieces which however are sadly lying around three quarters done , but not just quite completed…..
So now is the time to get all my WIPs (works-in-progress) and get them completed!!
Here are just a couple of pieces that I have added to my shop on etsy.com
and for a touch of red!
The first BiDM for 2010 is coming up fassssst…
BiDM (which stands for Brisbane Indie Designers Market) is the fantastic market organised by my local Etsy team BrisStyle (etsy.com)
I just received the email yesterday with the application details & sent it straight back…..hope I get in!
The first one for the year is on Saturday 6th March….not long to go now. It hardly seems like any time at all since the very successful market we had on Dec 5th last year. Time has flown soooo fast over the holidays. I have been working on some projects over the break but lots of them are still WIPs (works-in-progress) or really just mere ideas in my head!
I will be hope to be creating a mixed range of goodies for the day – vests for children and women, accessories and jewellery. All made by me with a mix of sewing, crochet, applique and more….
I will keep you posted, dear reader, as to how it all goes!
I am back at my keyboard after a refreshing break over the festive season and am ready & rearing to go for 2010. I hope you all had great Christmas and New Year celebrations!
Lots of ideas for this year and this post is one of my new themes.
I thought each month I would look at the birthstone and talk about it a little, look for goodies made with it or using the colour – a good way for me to learn more about gemstones and their meanings.
Garnets are typically recognised as beinga deep, dark brownish – red colour. They can also be yellow, red, purple, pink, orange, multi colour, green & more. Glass beads that are a similar colour are also called “garnet”
Here is a link to some “garnet” goodies from one of my online groups – Etsy DUST (Down Under Street Team)
Chatting recently about the number of CDs lying around and ways to recycle or reuse them.
I was asked if I could think of ways to do this, beyond the usual hanging ornaments
or as items to deter birds ion the garden.
The project would have to be on a low-cost, no-cost basis
– meaning that the labour to do the “recycling” would be free,
but any additional items would need to be donated or somehow “found”.
Hmmm now I love a challenge…at first I couldn’t think of anything apart from the usual ideas above.
Then I did some internet research and came up with a few ideas that appealed to me.
Jewelry – use smaller bits of the CD to create pieces
Drink coasters – use the whole CD between two pieces of fabric
Bowls – use the whole CD which is softened by heat
Mosaics – break up the CD and use to decorate found items
House numbers – using reflective qualities of the CD surface so visitors can see your house number
Clocks – use the whole CD as a feature (the clock mechanism might have to be bought
so even though I love this idea I have put it last!)
Any other ideas?? they would be greatly appreciated!
I just love the idea of making jewelry – stay posted for the creations!!
PS If you reuse CDs please remember to use safety gear
protect your eyes with safety glasses and wear protective gloves.
Work in a well ventilated environment
